An arts student with a passion for online content creation
Hi there, I'm Jess Longmuir. I'm a third year bachelor of arts student at the University of Canberra. I am majoring in Journalism, English Language and Literature and Sociology and Social Policy.
I am passionate about social issues and using my knowledge and writing ability to create meaningful content designed for the online sphere. My passion for online content creation goes beyond blogging and writing, with social media being one of my greatest interests.
My interest in sociology and social policy provides me with a unique background to assess and report on current social and political issues. This has been something I have found interesting since I was in high school and chose to explore it more as part of my degree.
One of my largest career aspirations was achieved this year as I was able to create content for a not for profit organisation that specialised in gender equality - something that I personally feel quite strongly about. Beyond this I'd love to create the same type of online content that I enjoy consuming. This content revolves around social media and digging deeper into the quirky stories that pop up on an individual's timeline.
While my degree has set my up to follow a traditional reporting path as a journalist, I am discovering that while reporting is interesting, entertainment and arts is where my true interest lies.
I am a strong people person and have an incredibly positive energy about me. I think it's important that while I take my work and career seriously, that doesn't mean I have to take myself seriously. This is not only an outlook on life but also a skill I posses. Due to my positive and humorous energy, I make good impressions easily and have gravitational effect on those around me.
